Beware of measles!

FOR WHICH GROUPS OF PEOPLE IS MEASLES ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS?

Out of 10 unvaccinated and immune people, 9 will get measles after contact with an infected person. That is why unvaccinated children and adults are at risk.

But, as the Ministry of Health notes, measles is especially dangerous for some groups of people:

Children under the age of 1, for whom measles can have severe consequences.
Children with bronchial asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, cancer, or other chronic diseases. They also have a higher risk of serious complications after measles.
For pregnant women: Measles can cause premature birth or lead to the birth of a critically underweight child. A child can get measles in the womb and have serious consequences, such as brain damage.
Unvaccinated healthcare workers are at high risk of getting sick.
When should I get the measles vaccine?

Remember that there is no specific treatment for measles, the only reliable protection is vaccination.

Two doses of the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, rubella, and mumps, are enough to protect against measles. They are given to children at 12 months (first dose) and 6 years (second dose).

If an adult has not been vaccinated against measles, he or she should receive at least one, and optimally two, vaccinations at least one month apart. Women need to be vaccinated before pregnancy because when they are pregnant, MMR vaccination is contraindicated.

If your child has not been vaccinated against measles, contact your pediatrician or family doctor and catch up as soon as possible. MMR vaccination is free of charge for children under 18 years of age.
