The prevention of influenza

ARVI (acute respiratory viral infections) is a group of infectious diseases caused by airborne viruses and characterized by fever, intoxication, and catarrhal syndrome (inflammation of the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract). Influenza has symptoms similar to other acute respiratory viral infections but is much more dangerous. Therefore, the first symptoms of SARS require special attention. The most common complication of influenza is pneumonia, which can sometimes lead to death in just 4-5 days. Heart failure also often develops as a result of flu complications.

To protect yourself from influenza and ARVI and slow down their spread, you should follow the following rules

- avoid crowded places to reduce the likelihood of contact with sick people;

- observe cough hygiene (cover your nose and mouth with a disposable napkin when coughing or sneezing), and throw used napkins in the trash immediately, as they can also become a source of infection;

- use disposable masks to protect yourself or others from infection, it is important to remember that the mask is effective only if it covers the mouth and nose;

- wash your hands frequently with soap and water, refrain from touching your face, especially the eyes, nose, and mouth;

- regularly ventilate the room and do wet cleaning;

- Eat well, get enough sleep, and avoid overwork to increase the body's resistance, which will increase the chances of preventing both infection and severe forms of the disease and its complications.

The most effective measure of specific flu prevention is vaccination. Influenza vaccinations are carried out annually with an updated vaccine that contains strains of influenza viruses that will circulate following the WHO's annual forecast for the epidemic season. It is especially important to get vaccinated promptly for people from risk groups: healthcare workers, pregnant women, the elderly, children under 5 years of age, people with chronic diseases, etc.

Remember: if you are sick and have symptoms of a respiratory illness, stay home. Take care of yourself and those around you!
